The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has on Wednesday rejected the allegations of kidnapping two persons by its official, saying it had no intelligence officer namely Major Tariq.

The Ministry of Defence on behalf of the ISI submitted its reply with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) through Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.

A single member bench of the IHC comprising Chief Justice Iqbal Hameed Ur Rehman heard the missing persons’ case.

The DAG informed the court that there was no Major Tariq serving as intelligence officer in the intelligence agency. The activists belonging to banned outfits have gone underground and later their families put blame on country’s intelligence agency to malign it, he added.

Later, Chief Justice IHC Iqbal Hameed Ur Rehman forwarded the case to the Missing Persons Commission working on the issue and hearing adjourned the till March 16.

Earlier, the IHC on February 20 had summoned Major Tariq of ISI by March 14 to defend allegations leveled against him in the missing persons’ case.

The court had issued the summons of Major Tariq following a petition filed by Muhammad Islam Abid, relative of one of the two missing persons Dr. Abdul Qayyum and Dr. Abdul Wahid.

Justice Noor ul Haq Qureshi had heard the petition and summoned Major Tariq through the Ministry of Defence.

The petitioner, who is brother-in-law of Dr. Abdul Qayyum, had prayed the court to recover both the abductees, Dr. Abdul Qayyum and Dr. Abdul Wahid, who went missing, respectively from Rahim Yar Khan and Lahore.

Umer Hayyat Sindhu, the counsel of the petitioner, had pointed the fingers on Major Tariq, an alleged ISI official, claiming that he had earlier picked a citizen Osama Hanif and had taken away with him in his office Sector G-9 Karachi Company Islamabad.

He had prayed the court that both the doctors had gone missing in August last year and they had never been seen again since then.

After receiving the reply of the ISI, the court on Wednesday, referred the case to the missing persons’ commission.
