Paperless Environment: Is it really the time to bid farewell to paper? – Part 2
Friday, March 16th, 2012 6:31:53 by Usman KhalidWhy make the prediction of a long death of paper? The reason is that it has infiltrated our lives so deeply that replacing a paper stack with a hard drive and words with 101011 bits and bytes will be a lengthy procedure.
The use of paper is not limited to just reading and writing, though they are important uses. Your wallet might have a stack of credit cards but there is a strong possibility that it is accompanied by currency as well, and that is paper.
Amazon might pride itself for humbling the publishers of paper-based books but end is not in sight, not yet. There are still those who prefer to read from a book by twisting one cover over the face of the other, or placing it on the tablet and turning over the leafs page by page.
However, the fact that e-ink readers and colourful tablets have changed the approach of many keen readers cannot be denied. The main reason for such a shift in trend is that a tablet gives the users a good value for money. It is not only a source to read books but it has perks like web browsing, video watching, music listening and emailing (one of the paperless platforms) in the fold to lure more and more customers. Moreover, tablets have more resale value than a book can ever have even for feature of book reading.
Books aside, paper is also ‘the most authentic’ source for receipts at the end of any transaction. The ATM might be all about plastic and electronic money but the receipt that rolls out at the end of the transaction is a paper indeed. However, Google and other players in the market are making sure that electronic wallets see the light of the day as soon as possible.
