Babar Awan once again out…
Saturday, March 17th, 2012 3:22:37 by Faisal FarooqDue to his close association with President Asif Ali Zardari, Babar Awan, the former law minister and senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), once was a boaster and arrogant as well.
He enjoyed the support of President Zardari despite PPP’s workers did not like him at all.
The most reason of abhorrence is his past as there is ample evidence about him that he distributed sweets when Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged till death by the then military dictator, Gen Zia ul Haq.
His famous verse of Punjabi poetry, ‘Notice Milya Kakh Na Hilya’ (Summon doesn’t make any difference) put him in series of troubles. Although the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued contempt notice to him, it was an indication of his influence in the presidency.
However, this verse will haunt him for long. Possibly, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah would love to repeat it before media to tease Babar Awan as the news coming from the power corridors indicates that he is no longer being supported and respected in Prime Minister House and the Presidency.
The renowned legal expert landed in trouble after he refused to appear before the apex court as a witness in the contempt of court case against Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
At the same time, he attempted to create misunderstanding between Punjab Governor Latif Khosa and President Asif Ali Zardari after PPP candidate Aslam Gill lost in the recently held Senate elections.
According to the media reports, Awan’s entry in the presidency and prime minister house has been limited and security staff which was deployed for him as law minister and was not taken back even after his resignation from the ministry, has now been withdrawn.
Furthermore, the government according to the reports is all set to cancel the contract of the Law Secretary Masood Chisti, who was appointed on Awan’s advice. He was also not invited in the recently held party’s Core Committee’s meeting.
It is widely believed in the Islamabad’s drawing rooms that Awan was also not happy over the appointment of Nayyar Hussain Bokhari as Chairman Senate.
Some insiders say that Awan wanted to hold the top slot of the Upper House of Parliament.
