Sunday, March 18th, 2012 7:10:28 by Farasat AliCary Sherman, head of the RIAA, the American Association of the recording industry, has announced that major U.S. cable operators like Cablevision, Verizon and Time Warner Cable will start monitoring user’s downloads through their
broadband from July 12, on Wednesday in New York.
RIAA are taking the effective measures to cut off illegal downloading mainly of music and the movies. The announcement was made ??during the annual conference of the AAP, the National Association of Publishers.
Sherman explained that they have taken a year to get it going because it is not as easy as pressing a button.
"Every broadband provider has a system to automate their infrastructure. You need to create a database to record the people who repeat the download of files with intellectual property rights and each operator is using a different
technology." The Chief was quoted as saying.
He added: “Each ISP has to develop their infrastructure for automating the system. They need this for establishing the database so they can keep track of repeat infringers, so they know that this is the first notice or the third
notice. Every ISP has to do it differently depending on the architecture of its particular network."
The program, commonly known as "graduated response" send the users early warnings if what they are doing is illegal. And if the user continues with the types of discharges, the operator will send a notice back to ask if he had
not received previous warnings, while informing him of the risks involved. If it persists, the operator could cut off the service.
While this particular initiative is launched, the bill has been put to the United States Congress, which are under pressure from the technology sector. News in U.S suggests that the association of publishers are up against the
bill.
