The Hunger Games – receives positive reviews before its release
Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games is a 2012 science fiction flick which is based on a novel of the same name which is written by Suzanne Collins. It stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. The movie is scheduled to release on 23rd March in United
States and 21st March in Belgium, France, Netherlands and Philippines in conventional theatres and in digital IMAX theatres.
The 142-minute movie is set in a not so real future where North American has collapsed and replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year every district selects a boy and a girl through lottery who fight till death in live
television which is broadcasted throughout the country. When Katniss younger sister, Prim, is selected for this duel from the mining district, Katniss (starred by Lawrence) volunteers to replace her. She along with her male counterpart, Peeta (played by Hutcherson)
participates in the event where they face stronger opponents who practiced for this their entire lives.
The $78 million budgeted movie received positive reviews from critics worldwide before its release. The review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes reports 100 percent score before its release. Meta Critic also gave an amazing score of 73 out of 100 based on
its six reviews.
IGN Movie’s film critic, Eric Goldman, gave it a four out of five score and declared, “Both fans of the books and those brand new to the story of Katniss Everdeen will find The Hunger Games compelling. With the first film proving the series is in good hands,
I’m excited to see the next chapters play out onscreen.”
Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy also praised the movie by stating, “Hunger Games has such a strong narrative structure, built-in forward movement and compelling central character that it can’t go far wrong.”
Overall, the Hunger Games will be a must watch movie for all genre.
