James Magnussen, Nick D’Arcy and Stephanie Rice shined on fourth day of the 2012 Energy Australia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide.
The Australian championship is a selection trial for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Magnussen dominated the Men’s 100m freestyle semi-final, where he posted a time of 47.93 seconds. The 20-year-old Magnussen, who is eyeing the world record of 46.91, made by Cesar Cielo at the 2009 World Championships, has expressed his desire of improving
his time in the playoff of double lap freestyle event.
Magnussen believed that if he could work on a few things, he would definitely go under his semi-final mark.
While talking about the work record, he said, “I’d certainly be going for it. But you just don’t know until the day, it’s got to be one of the swims where it feels like you’re floating, I guess, so I won’t really know until I hit the water tomorrow night
but I’ll certainly be chasing after it.”
“There’s … no point blowing off some steam or letting out all the testosterone and beating my chest in the semi-final,” Magnussen added.
On the other hand, Nick D’Arcy has qualified for the London Games as he seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly by producing an effort of 1 minute and 54.71 seconds.
D’Arcy was contented with his accomplishment, expressing that it is an honour to represent his nation at the battle royal and claimed that he would try his level best to make his country proud at the forthcoming Olympics.
On the other hand, Stephanie Rice outsmarted her challengers in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM). Rice, who underwent a shoulder surgery last year, smothered struggles of her challengers by claiming gold medal of the discipline with the timing of
2 minutes and 09.38 seconds.
“I’m really happy to have come away with a PB in these suits and more than anything execute the race that I wanted to execute,” said Rice.
Furthermore, the championship will end on March 22 after the completion of all events.
