Monday, March 19th, 2012 11:29:50 by Faisal FarooqNawaz Sharif rejects allegations of Younis Habib
Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the second largest party in parliament, said that he had never seen or met Younis Habib in real life till his appearance on television in recent days when he leveled the charge that he had paid Rs3.5 million to Nawaz Sharif in person.
He observed, “I have no idea why Younis Habib is doing it and on whose behest although there is a lot of speculation about his character in the media. What I know for a fact is that he is a highly discredited man who brought financial ruin to his bank. Shahbaz Sharif has given him a proper reply”.
Confessing that his party made errors in the past, but Nawaz Sharif said they had learned the lesson with intention not to diverge from the right pathway and learnt to stick by his democratic philosophy.
The PML-N chief expressed hopes that newly appointed Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General Zaheerul Islam will not meddle in politics.
Nawaz Sharif, who was out of the scene from quite some days, addressed a news conference in London, alleging that the PPP-led government was busy currying support with the establishment in a grand conspiracy in order to stay in power and weaken the democracy.
He, however, stated that his party will not become part of the conspiracies hatched by the intelligence agencies, without considering the temptations.
Nawaz Sharif, the two-time former prime minister of the country, said the character of the spy agencies should not be to take over the offices of political parties and coddled in horse trading as they did during the previous regime to help PML-Q.
If the PML-N comes to power, it will discuss the military’s budget in parliament, adding that he said the incumbent had failed to do so.
He asked the PPP-led government to stop disesteeming institutions, saying it was a joke with Pakistani nation that its elected premier Yousaf Raza Gilani suggested students on how to evade the Supreme Court verdicts.
Flaying criticism on Gilani, the PML-N chief said the premier failed to exhibit character when he first criticized the intelligence agencies for being ‘state within the state’ and then drew back it by saying that he implored the ISI chief to take extension.
