Kareena Kapoor: I don’t want to do an item song
Monday, March 19th, 2012 4:23:38 by Imran Shaukat KhanBollywood’s ultimate diva, Kareena Kapoor, has provided the industry with some of the chartbusters like ‘Chammak Challo’, ‘It’s rocking’, ‘Mauja hi mauja’ and ‘Chhaliya’ but she feels the term ‘item song’ doesn’t look appropriate.
The actor was present at the India Today Conclave 2012 last Friday where she insisted that she simply hates the word ‘item song’ or ‘item number’.
The 30-year-old, who is the highest earning female star at this point in time, remarked that Hindi films are known best for the songs in them and therefore audiences give them a little respect.
“I just find something very derogatory about songs being called item numbers. I wish people just refer to them as just songs because songs make our Hindi films. They are what make our films global. When I walk the streets of London, fans come up and talk about Chammak challo, You are my Soniya and songs of Jab We Met. Songs are part of our culture, we should be proud of them,” said the actor.
Kapoor has recently performed to a mujra ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ in the much-anticipated upcoming movie ‘Agent Vinod’, in which she will play a lead role opposite to her beau Saif Ali Khan.
Kareena’s mujra performance has been appreciated by many out there and it has landed her various opportunities. However, she has not yet agreed to do a song in the sequel to Salman Khan’s blockbuster ‘Dabangg’ since she doesn’t want to do any item number.
“They have spoken to me about it. But we haven’t decided anything yet. Salman has been saying you should do it, it will look great. But I don’t want to do an item song…I want to do a good song in a good film like Dabangg 2,” she said in a diplomatic way.
Kareena Kapoor will be seen on the Silver on March 23 in ‘Agent Vinod’ and later on she will be featured as the female lead in ‘Heroine’ and ‘Talaash’.
