‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard: David Haye can better Vitali Klitschko by using his speed

Boxing great ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard, who was named ‘Boxer of the Decade’ for the 1980, believes that the former WBA heavyweight champion, David Haye, will have to use his speed if he wants to defeat the 6ft 7in Ukrainian giant, Vitali Klitschko, who currently holds the WBC heavyweight champion.

Haye and Vitali are having negotiations and rumours revolving around suggest that perhaps both fighters will take on each other this summer. Though the fight has not been made as of yet since Haye is demanding a lot of money, there are bright chances.

Leonard told Sun Sport, “David’s not that big of a heavyweight, so size will be a factor. If that fight comes to fruition, David will have to be mobile. He can’t be a stationary target. The extra money a fight like that would generate certainly doesn’t hurt. It creates a little incentive and that extra bit of motivation.”

The 31-year-old brash Londoner, David Haye, more commonly known as Hayemaker, last year on July 2, lost his WBA title to Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir Klitschko at the Hamburg’s Football stadium.

Haye claimed much prior to the bout but on the fight night he lost via a twelve round unanimous point’s decision and later on the Brit officially announced his retirement after Wladimir refused to offer to give him another chance. However, he always said that he will come out of his retirement, if he gets a chance against any of the Klitschko brothers.

Although Haye doesn’t have anything to bring to the table now, he still wants a big pay-day and it looks as if Vitali and his management will fail to agree to his wants.

Well, all said and done, Haye will certainly have to use his speed against Vitali as otherwise he doesn’t stand many chances against the Ukrainian and he also knows it very well even if Leonard doesn’t tell him.

Anyways let’s hope a fight between Haye and Vitali gets real because there are still many boxing fans who want to see David Haye fighting in the ring.
