Fiat 500 Abarth: Hands-on Review – Part 1
Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 8:02:28 by Usman KhalidFiat just rolled out the US version of their Fiat 500 Abarth. At first look the small hatchback gives the same look of the Fiat 500c except the side-skirt stickers that tell the very difference. Oh! There are two shiny Abarth logos at the front and rear ends of the vehicle.
The inside of the car tells the same story as most of the outer shell. The interior is the same, the same seats and same dashboard items except a super-charger metre that actually makes the difference in both 500c and 500 Abarth. However, that is saved for the latter.
The rest of the interior is more or less the same as last year’s version with a standard stereo and speedometer and stuff.
The car while on idling is a little weird, but in a very attractive manner. When left standstill with engine running, the car gives a growl of extra revs, but don’t worry that ends in a couple of seconds. This abnormal behaviour might be because of the super-charger inside the hood but it is a nice touch to the cub that wants to roar like a lion.
The Abarth version of the Fiat 500 focuses on performance. The 500 has been lowered and the suspension tuned for more rigidity, to keep the tires in contact with the road. The 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, the same as that found in the standard 500, gets a turbocharger, bringing the output up to 160 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.
The little structure with 160 hps gives the car some solid power to move even faster from point A to point B. Therefore, it has two-fold productivity to get you to your destination quickly because of the revamped engine and swiftly with the little size it has.
