Pakistan wants ties with US based on mutual respect: Deputy Chairman Senate
Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 10:50:17 by Faisal FarooqNewly elected deputy chairman Senate, Sabir Baloch has said Pakistan wants relationships with US based on mutual respect, saying the two countries will have to work together to improve the bilateral ties.
While speaking to a two-member delegation of US Embassy, he said the two countries enjoyed cordial relations in terms of military, economic and developmental sectors.
About recommendations prepared by Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) in connection with the new terms of engagement with the US, Sabir Baloch informed the delegation that the proposal had been formulated unanimously by members of various political parties.
About regional state of affairs, the deputy chairman observed, “Pakistan’s role is crucial in success of peace talks between Taliban and US and we fully second the efforts”.
He, however, said Americans according to the speech of President Barrack Hussain Obama must settle things with coalition partners before leaving Afghanistan.
About worsening law and order situation in Balochistan, Sabir Baloch asserted, “Without any doubt the province is a neglected region and native people have been asking for their rights for long time.
The incumbent government, under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, has decided to leave no stone unturned to address the grievances of Balochistan”.
In order to seek ultimate solution of the issue, President Zardari both in his official and personal capacity held several meetings with Baloch nationalist leaders, he added. In his view, the Aghaz-i-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package indicated the seriousness of the incumbent to redress the grudges of the province.
The deputy chairman asserted that both short and long term measures will be acquired to start developmental projects in the region. He expressed hopes to settle the matters with dialogue with dissident Baloch nationalists.
Speaking in the meeting, US Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Jonathan Pratt said they were working closely to sort out issues on immediate bases. He informed the deputy chairman that they were leaving no effort to sort out the issues with Afghan officials.
He said that the US was diverting larger chunk of its aid to civil sector for socioeconomic uplift of people of Pakistan.
