John Carter: receives average ratings

John Carter is a 2012 science fiction film which is directed by Andrew Santos (who has previously worked on Finding Nemo and Wall-E) and has a budget of $250 million. The movie stars Taylor Kitsch as its lead character and is based
on A Princess of Mars written by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The 132-minute film is distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and produced by Jim Morris and Colin Wilson.

The movie follows the former military captain John Carter (starred by Kitsch), who is strangely transported to the lush planet, Mars, and becomes part of a conflict between the various nations of the planet. After escaping from
the 12-foot tall barbarians, he encounters Princess Dejah Thoris (starred by Lynn Collins) who is in desperate need of a saviour. 

The film received a 51 per cent rotten rating at the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 5.7 out of 10 from 196 critics. The site general consensus states, “While John Carter looks terrific and delivers
its share of pulpy thrills, it also suffers from uneven pacing and occasionally incomprehensible plotting and characterization.”

Luke Buckmaster of the Crikey praised the movie by stating, “Director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall.E) could easily have found himself feeding the belly of a turkey too fat to support its own legs – slow, clunky, stupid –
but manages to keep a spectacular beast of a movie fast-footed.”

Laremy Legel gave the flick B rating and stated, “Where John Carter continually gets it right is pacing, levity, and breadth of story.”

Stephen Whitty of the Newark Star-Ledger gave it a 2.5 out of four rating and had a different opinion. He said, “Whenever the fighting stops and two people have to stand and talk, all the air goes out of everything. Suddenly it
feels as if we’re in an empty theatre, watching a dusty old sword-and-sandal epic.”

Overall, it’s a good way to pass time with your friends and family.
