Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Senator Haji Lashkari Raisani on Tuesday relinquished his Senate membership. Sources close to Raisani have claimed that the senator has taken the decision following difference of opinion on resolving the Baluchistan
crisis.
Confirming Raisani’s resignation, sources have revealed that there were differences between the departing senate member and some provincial leaders of the party. The sources further added that the differences that led to Raisani’s resignation from senate
membership are the same which prompted him to step down from his post of PPP Provincial President back in 2010
“Yes I tendered my resignation to Chairman Senate and will disclose the reasons behind my resignation in a few days,” Haji Lashkari Raisani, the former provincial president of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party said on Tuesday.
Sources claimed that Raisani was not satisfied with the central leadership’s handling of issues pertaining to the anarchic Balochistan. Raisani, according to the sources, is blaming the PPP government for the worsening law and order situation in the province as
he feels the government had mishandled the situation prevailing there.
Raisani, who is also younger brother of Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani, had sidelined himself from party activities for the past several months. He had been issuing public statements accusing Federal Ministers, including Interior Minister
Rehman Malik, for polluting the political environment in Baluchistan.
According to a statement issued by spokesman of Lashkari Raisani, the resignation was sent to the Chairman of senate Nayyar Bukhari for the approval through fax.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gillani, reportedly contacted Raisani and requested him to withdraw his resignation. It is pertinent to mention here that there were rumours that Raisani might join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
