Apple product designs: Is the company losing its taste or saving the rabbit in the hat – Part 3

Another reason why Apple does not go for a new design every now and then is that its emphasis is on the innards of any device. The company’s history shows that it has always stuck to a simple design and has not changed it until the right time comes.

iMac was released in 1998 and the all-in-one computer concept spawned. In the start it was a gigantic one-unit device that had everything from Brain to Braun in the monitor. Then in 2002 the company switched to LCDs and that was the last major change in the computer. After that, iMac may have gotten certain cosmetic changes but non to unsubtle to make a big statement.

Apple’s laptop product line has probably seen even fewer design changes, except for the most recent MacBook Air, which was the thinnest and lightest notebook on the market when it was introduced.

The desktop Mac Pro has been the most ignorant child of them all. There have been changes none to mention if a transformation from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 is in the details.

The very same has happened between iPod generations. The 3rd generation iPod had the headset slot in the top middle of the iPod. But the next generation of the device, Apple moved that hole to the side, which made it impossible use iPod 3rd generation covers on next year’s.

However, the company has learnt from its mistakes. They do not fiddle with the ports and holes on the edges if the over design is kept intact. However, the main difference comes in interior designing.
