Pakistan’s ban on ‘Agent Vinod’ is a shame says Saif Ali Khan
Wednesday, March 21st, 2012 12:34:20 by Imran Shaukat KhanThe much-awaited Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Agent Vinod’ has been banned by the Pakistani Film Censor Board since they believe that the film has shown their country in a bad light and this news has not gone well with the actor at all.
Earlier, films like ‘Kurbaan’, ‘Gadar’ and ‘Tere Bin Laden’ were banned for the same reason and films likes ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Delhi Belly’ were banned of ‘lewd’ content.
The 41-year-old Bollywood heart-throb told the media that Pakistan cinema is already going through a poor phase and it will never be able to improve, if Pakistan will keep taking on such steps.
“It is a shame that the movie is banned, with no offence to anyone, as the idea is to have open films between the two countries. I was proud that this film was to release there,” Saif said at an event.
“In fact the heroine in our film is a Pakistani girl. We were hoping that they would appreciate that,” he added.
The Indian action spy thriller directed by Sriram Raghavan will hit the cinemas on this Friday. The film revolves around an Indian spy who dies while accomplishing his mission overseas but before dying he sends a mysterious message back to the headquarters suggesting something wrong.
The movie contains references to the ISI, which is the main reason why it has been banned. However, Saif thinks whatever has been shown in the film is a known fact.
He said, “This is a realistic kind of a thriller. We have shown that there are some negative elements in Pakistan towards India and their Censor have a problem showing that.
“We have shown a few most-wanted criminals, those that are harboured in Pakistan, which is a known fact. May be they have taken offence to that. But ultimately we want a RAW agent to win and baddies to lose.”
The actor also believes that the ban in Pakistan will lead to increase in its piracy.
Well, all said and done, Pakistan is amongst the top Bollywood overseas markets as a result to which ‘Agent Vinod’ will certainly get a big blow as far as its business is concerned.
