Based on the TV series of the same name, 21 Jump Street is produced by Stephen J. Cannel. It was written by Jonah Hill and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as the lead roles along with Brie Larson, Ice Cube,
Dave Franco and Rob Riggle.
In May 2008, Columbia Pictures confirmed this movie and Hill rewrote an existing script by screenwriter Jow Gazzam. In December 2009 it was announced that Lord and Miller were in talks with the Columbia Pictures. The duo has previously worked on Cloudy with
a Chance of Meatballs.
The flick is shot in and around the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. It follows the same continuity as the TV series as Lord was quoted, “So, all of those events of the original happened. And now here we are 20 years later, and we’re watching it happened
to different people.”
The movie centres on Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) who joined the police force after graduation. Schmidt was the dork while Jenko was the popular one in their high school days. However, after their young appearances, Schmidt and Jenko, are assigned to
an undercover mission back to the high school. They had to infiltrate a drug ring which supplies synthetic drugs to the high school students.
The movie has a production budget of $42 million and it received a certified fresh score of 86 per cent in the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 7.1 out of 10 based on 170 reviews.
IMDB gave it a score of 7.7 out of 10 based on its 6,038 users while Meta Critic gave it a score of 69 out of 100 based on 41 reviews.
The action comedy flick was released on 16th March and till then it has grossed $46.9 million, eventually covering its budget in the opening week.
