Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand visits Harrapa, Peshawar Museum

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand is visited the Harapa Museum and Harrapa archaeological site on Thursday morning.

She reached Harrapa via a chopper from Islamabad to spend a couple of hours at the ancient site.

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is also the head of a public organisation with strong academic credentials in Thailand. The center is named after her as The Sirindhorn Anthropology Center (SAC) which was established in 1992 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The major aims of the center are to gather and systematically process anthropological data scattered throughout Thailand.

The princess is also keen to know more about the Gandhara civilization and Buddha sites in Pakistan and her visit to Harrapa is also a part of her learning journey.

Acknowledging her outstanding services and in promotion of Thai-Pak relations, President Asif Ali Zardari will award her with the Hilal-e-Pakistan on March 23rd during the Pakistan Day ceremony.

Upon her arrival, special arrangements were made at the Harrapa site where a helipad was established and strict security measures were taken. However, the local administration kept secret her visit to Harrapa and did not allow the local media to cover her
visit.

The Thai princess also visited Peshawar Museum. “I feel happy that I could come here. This is the place I have known for a long time as my parents also came here 50 years ago,” she said.

The princess, after a tour of Peshawar Museum, seemed impressed with the rare collection of Buddha statues. In her brief interaction with media, she said that the museum had a good collection of artifacts, which were source of knowledge about human arts
and culture.

“Pakistan and Thailand are two friendly countries, tied in a bond of friendship through mutual respect and understanding,” she said.

After visiting the Harrapa site for more than two hours, the Princess flew back to Islamabad.
