Hussain Haqqani denies all charges leveled against him by Mansoor Ijaz
Thursday, March 22nd, 2012 9:54:48 by Faisal FarooqFormer ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, denied all allegations levelled against him by Mansoor Ijaz in the memo case despite confessing the telephonic conversation between the two.
He submitted his detailed 25-page reply to the Judicial Commission, saying, “All the Blackberry messages and emails produced by Ijaz to prove his allegations are false and baseless.”
Sajid Tanoli, the counsel for Haqqani, submitted the reply to the commission, tasked to investigate the secret memo. Earlier, the commission had directed the former ambassador to submit his reply in response of Ijaz’s allegations.
The commission ordered Haqqani to file reply clearly accepting or refusing the allegations, saying that Mansoor Ijaz, the main architect of the memogate, had concluded his evidence. Haqqani was given the deadline of Wednesday by the commission to submit his reply.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the chief justice of the Balochistan High Court (BHC), had warned Haqqani that if he did not submit his reply within given time, allegations levelled against him would be deemed correct.
Hussain Haqqani, in his reply, confessed his telephonic conversation with Mansoor Ijaz between May 9 and 10 last year, terming the contents of alleged memo baseless.
He observed, “In those two phone calls, I had requested Ijaz not to write articles against Pakistan’s nuclear programme and the security agencies”.
The former ambassador to the US rejected the other eight phone calls claimed by Mansoor Ijaz. Rejecting the Blackberry messages and emails of Mansoor Ijaz, he said that the US businessman was unable to produce a single Blackberry message or an email in which content of the memo was discussed.
He, about his Blackberry handsets, said he had returned his phones to the officials of Pakistani Embassy in the US when he tendered his resignation. He, however, said both of his Blackberry handsets had been lost.
Refusing the allegations, he said had never asked Mansoor Ijaz to write a memo on his behalf and deliver to Admiral Mike Mullen. He elaborated, “Ijaz failed to provide any solid evidence, on the base of which writing memo can be established”.
The Judicial Commission had summoned Hussain Haqqani in person to testify him on March 26, in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
