The Gunners cruised to the third spot in the Barclays English Premier League after they trounced Everton at the Goodison Park with a 1-0 score line.
The Red Army outclassed the home side completely as they sought several chances. Although Howard impressively warded off the remaining chances, the Gunners only goal let them clinch the match.
Thomas Vermaelen, who was the match winner against Newcastle United, fired the only goal in the eighth minute. Robin Van Persie was the one who set-up the spectacular goal.
In the 30th minute, Everton equalised the scores with the help from Alex Song’s mistake. However, the Gunners were lucky as Drenthe’s goal was disallowed after the assistant’s flag was raised.
Arsenal’s defence was brilliant throughout the match as they pulled out the victory with a clean sheet. Laurent Koscielny thinks that the impressive clean sheet was attained with the help from the whole team and not only the back line.
“It’s not just the four defenders, it’s all the team,” Koscielny was quoted after the match. “Robin van Persie made a lot of effort to help us, so it’s all the team who defend and attack and we did the job very well. We need to carry that into the next game
against Aston Villa at home on Saturday.”
Arsenal’s booming star, Aaron Ramsey was also tremendously dazed about his side’s performance regardless of the Toffees strong pressure after Vermaelen’s goal.
Ramsey commented, “It was great. We battled well and it came off. It was always going to be a tough place to come but we dealt with it well. They have done well against some of the top teams in the league so we are very proud.”
Arsenal’s local rival, Tottenham Hotspurs drew against Stoke City which helped the Gunners climb up the table. They had now secured the third spot at the English Premier League table and extended their winning streak to six matches.
Arsenal will square off against struggling Aston Villa this weekend and are looking forward to prolong their winning run to seven games.
