Balochistan is not on our priority list
Friday, March 23rd, 2012 12:15:58 by Faisal FarooqWith each passing day, the clime of fear in Balochistan becomes more and more intense, as very little has done to reinstate law and order into the disordered region.
The local people are under a constant fear and fright that their loved ones may disappear for without any obvious reason.
The rate of recurrence with which bullet-ridden bodies embellish dark paths and roadsides forces them to damp their voice against this oppression in case they become the victim of such incidents.
The situation is moving towards further deterioration, as there has never been a widening gap between the law enforcement agencies and local people.
Among many reasons, one is that this is not on the priority list of the concerned authorities. Similar is in the case when people too in return take no time in hurling all blame upon secret services.
Furthermore, the uncontrolled operations of terrorist groups give very little to feel pleasing in the present situation. The cases of murders and target killings, burning and closures of schools in the province further degenerate the situation, aiming at perpetuate an environment of continuous fear.
In fear of their lives, teachers and professor are quitting their jobs and moving to other parts of the country.
This mass emigration of professionals does not only impact the education system at this but will surely have grave delayed cost and backlashes. If the students and parents fear for the future of their younger ones in this milieu, it wouldn’t be wrong.
The people are spending their lives in fear of the wrath of their superiors and feudal mindsets due to prevalence of very close and confined tribal system.
Carnage and aggression are seldom reported whereas victimization of the subjugated continues unimpeded and intense. Killing of women is a sign of bravery and to sell them becomes an accepted custom in the region.
Fear is used as a tool of manipulation by the feudal lords for affirming their domination and to squash any sort of revolt against them.
How can we expect any improvement in the situation in Balochistan with a myriad of fear factors looming upon the people?
