Wonders of World: The Colosseum in Rome

The Colosseum’s original Latin name was Amphitheatrum Flavium and the name ‘Coliseum’ was not used until 7th century. It is located in heart of the Rome, Italy.
This is world’s most charismatic place and it is the finest example of Roman architecture and engineering. The Colosseum is world’s famous amphitheatre which could have 45,000 spectators. The construction of this Great work started in 69 and completed in 80 AD. It was built on the site of an artificial lake which was created in this valley by Nero.
The amphitheater was used for animal hunts, dramas, gladiatorial combats, mock sea battles and execution. The first festival of this arena was lasted for 100 days and about 5,000 wild beasts were killed in this stadium. The coliseum is one the most attracted tourist place in Rome up till today.
Today, the Colosseum is now a major tourist attraction in Rome where thousands of tourists visit each year paying tribute to the interior arena view. The arena now has a museum dedicated to Eros which is located in the upper floor of the outer wall.
