Awami National Party (ANP) will likely to support all the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) about new terms of engagement with the United States, particularly Pakistan’s role in the US-led war on terror.

ANP’s Chief Asfandyar Wali has summoned the meeting of consultative committee of his party to review the recommendations of PCNS to discuss the matters pertaining to revised foreign policy and expected reshuffle in the federal cabinet.

As the government has tabled the recommendations of PCNS in the joint sitting of the parliament for debate, the ally party has decided to give a comprehensive input in this regard.
The meeting of the Awami National Party (ANP)’s Consultative Committee will be held in Peshawar today (Saturday) under the chair of party head Asfandyar Wali.

The committee would observe the recommendations prepared by the parliamentary committee and would formulate a clear-cut stance with regard to Pak-Us relations.

ANP’s Spokesperson Senator Zahid Khan told dateline that ANP has no any extraordinary difference with the proposals of parliamentary body as Senator Afrasiab Khattak had already signed the draft being a member of the PCNS.

“However, there are some points which need further debate to evolve consensus,” Khan said. He added that his party would support the end of drone attacks and reopening NATO’s supply line.

About cabinet’s reshuffle, the ANP’s spokesperson said that his party would demand at least two ministries in the new federal cabinet.

He said that ANP at present has only one federal minister, adding that Ministry of Railway was bringing bad name to the ANP and Ghulam Ahmed Bilour.

“In my opinion, Bilour should quit Railway Ministry,” he suggested. He added that unlike other allies, the ANP has never blackmailed the ruling PPP and supported it during all tough times.

Earlier, Senator Ghulam Ahmed Bilour called for reopening NATO supply-line with some strict conditions in the larger national interest. In his view, the nation was not in a position to take on the United States and face its wrath

He observed, “Look the ANP wants Nato supplies to be restored in the best interest of the country, as we are not in a position to invite the wrath of the United States. We will strongly support parliamentary committee’s resolution for restoring NATO supplies which is to be debated in the parliament”.
