FATA parliamentarians vow to halt NATO supply-line
Saturday, March 24th, 2012 10:24:16 by Faisal FarooqA group of FATA’s parliamentarians on Friday announced to halt the NATO supply-line physically if it is restored by the government, as it has already indicated in the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS).
Senator Engineer Malik Rasheed while addressing a press conference along with other six FATA’s parliamentarians asserted, “We will seal the whole tribal belt and physically stop the NATO supply if it is restored by the government using the umbrella of the Parliament”.
Earlier, as many as seven parliamentarians of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) have announced to form a separate parliamentary group and nominated MNA Hamidullah Jan Afridi as their leader.
Senator Rasheed said FATA’s parliamentarians have rejected the recommendations of parliamentary committee regarding new terms of engagements with the US after the Salala check-post attack.
Without knowing wishes of the FATA’s people, the committee has recommended restoration of NATO supply, which is not acceptable to them, he added.
The lawmaker said that everyone was roaring against the NATO attack on Salala check-posts while no one speaks about the tribal people who died daily in the US drone attacks.
“If the issue of drones is not taken seriously then we will go for other options”, he vowed. In his view, FATA’s tribes were the defence line of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Former Minister Hamidullah Jan Afridi said that he would be the head of the parliamentary group comprising two Senators and five Members of National Assembly (MNAs).
He clarified MNA Munir Orakzai and Abbas Afridi had also formed their separate groups. He urged the government not to talk with Munir Orakzai on issues related to FATA.
Afridi maintained that they and the tribes of FATA have no more trust on Orakzai because he deceived them several times and always ditched the local people.
“Munir Orakzai has less interest in the welfare of the FATA’s people,” Afridi said. He maintained that Orakzai never took other FATA’s parliamentarians into confidence regarding his promises and talks with the government.
He said the National Assembly Secretariat and the Senate Secretariat have been informed about the formation of new FATA’s parliamentary group.
