Opposition agrees to adopt joint strategy in the parliament

Opposition parties sought guarantees from the Prime Minister to implement the recommendations of two in-camera parliament sessions and two All Parties Conferences (APCs).

The leaders of opposition parties including Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Mushahid Ullah, Chaudhary Jaffar Iqbal, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidry, Salim Saif Ullah Khan, Aftab Sherpao, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Laiq Muhammad Khan, Senator Talha Mehmood and Dr. Ishaq gathered at the residence of JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman.

The meeting decided to adopt joint strategy on the recommendations of special parliamentary committee on national security during the session of the parliament, which is going to be held on Monday.

After the meeting Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman told the Online that the opposition would not allow the government to hijack the proceedings of the parliament due to majority in the house.

He said that opposition has agreed that before the discussion on the national security, the Prime Minister should give guarantee for complete implementation of the recommendations of two in-camera joint session of the parliament and same number of All Parties Conference held in the past.

He said parliament’s name is being used to restore NATO supplies, but the opposition would protect national interest at all costs.

He said that the committee while preparing its recommendation also consulted with the Ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs and Commerce but the recommendations were kept in secret even the committee members were asked not to speak with the leaders of their party.

He said that the opposition parties have also agreed to launch a movement against the resolution passed by Sindh assembly to abolish the membership of PML (Likeminded) leader Arbab Ghulam Rahim. “Why the action was taken against only one member, whereas many MPAs remain on absent for along time from the session of the assembly.

Later, Ch Nisar briefed the media about the minutes of the meeting in the company of other opposition leaders.
