Lahore celebrates Mela Chiraghan

Lahore: (Sunday, March 25, 2012) Punjab Auqaf Minister Haji Ehsan-ud-din Qureshi said today that the present government is paying special attention on the protection and renovation of shrines of Sufi saints.

While inaugurating Hazrat Shah Hussain’s annual Urs celebrations, also known as Mela Chiraghan, he said that Mela Chiraghan was a traditional event of Punjab, especially Lahore and the Auqaf Department had made special arrangements
for visitors.

He was of the view that Ulema and Mashaikh should play an active role in setting up a society based on religious harmony, tolerance and social equality.

The minister for auqaf further added that Islam teaches peace, harmony and equality and by following in footsteps of Sufi saints, people should create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.
