West Indies-Australia tie the ODI series
Monday, March 26th, 2012 2:40:52 by Taha HabibAustralia defeated West Indies in the final ODI of the five-match series to ensure that the series finishes tied 2-2. The visitors needed to win in order to finish the ODI series on a high after the third match ended in a tie.
Winning the toss and electing to field first, West Indies restricted the Kangaroos to 281/9 in their allotted 50 overs. David Warner and Shane Watson added 118 for the first wicket before the former left the scene for 69 off Sunil Narine.
Watson followed his opening partner for 66, offering a simple chance at third-man to Marlon Samuels of Andre Russell. George Bailey made 19 and Brett Lee 12 before the duo fell in quick succession to leave the Aussies at 212/4. Peter Forrest played well
for his 53 before being caught by Kemar Roach off Russell.
David Hussey was out first ball, edging a delivery from Russell to wicketkeeper, Carlton Baugh. Mike Hussey made 25 and Matthew Wade, a quick-fire 26 to propel Australia to 281. Russell picked up 4/61 of his 9 overs while Roach snapped up 3/53 of his 9.
Narine picked up 2/55 off his 10 overs.
In reply, the home side got off to a poor start when Johnson Charles was caught & bowled by Lee for a duck. Samuels also made a duck as Windies slumped to 5/2. Soon they were reduced to 37/3 and then 63/4 as both Bravo brothers left the scene. Adrian Barath
was once again picked up in his 40’s when he offered a catch to Bailey off Xavier Doherty.
Keiron Pollard made 33 off 40 and Darren Sammy 84 off 50, offering some sort of resistance for the hosts. Sammy tried his level best to keep his team in the hunt for trophy but eventually was the last wicket to fall giving Ben Hilfenhaus his first wicket.
Lee picked up 3/42 while Clint McKay, Shane Watson and Doherty picked up a couple of wickets each. Sammy was declared the Man of the Match while Pollard was given the Man of the Series award.
