Lennox Lewis thinks David Haye will do better against Vitali Klitschko

Former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Lennox ‘The Lion’ Lewis, reckons that his fellow countryman David Haye, former WBA heavyweight champion, still has the potential of capturing a world championship.

The 31-year-old brash Londoner, who is more commonly known as the Hayemaker, suffered an embarrassing defeat last year to Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir Klitschko, the current WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO & Ring Magazine Heavyweight Champion, on July 2 and when he was not offered a rematch, he walked away from the sport.

However, now Haye is trying hard to have another title fight, this time against WBC world champion Vitali Klitschko and Lewis feels Haye will do well, if the fight between the two gets made.

“David wants to redeem himself against the bigger Klitschko, who I believe is the more awkward and difficult one, but maybe he can do better against the guy who doesn’t move too well,” Lewis told SunSport.

In the meantime, Lewis also commented on Haye’s fight with Wladimir. Haye declared much prior to the bout but on the fight night he lost his title to Wladimir via a twelve round unanimous decision. Haye claimed he had an injured toe due to which he couldn’t launch his Hayemaker punch, a reason which many out there think was a fake. Nevertheless, Lewis believes Haye should have not fought, if he really had an injured toe.

Lewis remarked, “I was surprised that David didn’t get a better result against Wladimir, but like he said, he did hurt his toe. It’s hard to move properly when you hurt your toe but, if it was me, I wouldn’t have taken the fight because you have to be in perfect nick when you challenge the best.”

He added, “You have to be perfect on that day you step into the ring. When it comes to colds, belly aches, hurt toes, you have to make sure you don’t have any of those.”

Well, all said and done, let’s see if Haye gets a boxing license to have a mega-fight with Vitali Klitschko.
