Apple on the brink of getting clean chit in China
Tuesday, March 27th, 2012 11:47:47 by Farasat AliThere is still no firm verdict but all indications are already screaming that Apple are on the brink of a success following their case of patents against Proview Technologies for use of the iPhone brand in China.
However, the U.S. technology giant still needs to qualify for the quality certificate, from the agency that oversees the quality of products sold in Asian countries, to kick start the sale of the third version of the tablet
in the local market, China.
Apple launched the iPad 2 one month after obtaining the approval from China Compulsory Certification, known as 3C, last year. Establishments surveyed by the country expect that the situation is repeated with the new version
and thus they have avoided the smuggling that originates in Hong Kong.
"At first we feared that the authorities forbid the sale of the iPad as a precautionary measure until the ruling of the Supreme Court of Guangdong, which will issue a final verdict on the dispute in a maximum of three months.
But it’s looks like the matter will be resolved amicably." said the head of one of the shops, who prefers to remain anonymous.
However, judging by recent public statements made by the heads of Proview, the Taiwanese company is about to face bankruptcy that had registered the trademark in 2001 to manufacture a PC with Internet connection.
"We’re considering Apple’s offering. If the proposal is good and fair agreement is positive for both parties." Proview founder, Rowell Yang, was quoted as saying.
The Chinese also want to close the litigation with a financial settlement that would ensure business continuity, but it seems that Apple will give them a budge because the possession of documents confirming the purchase of
naming rights is for everyone, including China.
