Islamabad: (Tuesday, March 27, 2012) Newly selected Senator and President’s spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said today that for the first time in the history of Pakistan the parliament had got its right to provide its input for
the formulation of foreign policy.
While congratulating the parliamentarians to discuss the report prepared by Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS), Babar told the joint parliamentary session that the previous political regime had strived to exercise
the right to form the foreign policy but they could not get through with their efforts.
He said by reclaiming its right to decide upon the foreign policy, the parliament had hit an important benchmark. To him, for allowing this freedom to the lawmakers on part of his party should be appreciated by all political leaders
and their parties.
Babar also said that parliament had a crucial role to play in the appointment of judges of superior judiciary and member of the Pakistan Election commission.
Rejecting the allegations that under their regime the parliament was reduced to a mere rubber stamp, he said that the government took the decision of halting the NATO supplies at their own and got the Shamsi airbase vacated in
light of the resolution passed by the parliament.
He also encouraged the parliamentarians to work hard and to take part in the important and serious debates in the parliament to sustain this basic right of theirs.
