Forced Accession: Shutter down strike in Balochistan on BNF call

Quetta: (Tuesday, March 27, 2012) Quetta, along with rest of the Balochistan witnessed a complete shutter-down and wheel jam strike today rendering the business and trade activities in the province paralyzed.

The call for strike was given by Baloch National Front (BNF) against what they described as Balochistan’s “forced accession” to Pakistan back on March 27, 1948.

Amid the strike, the traffic on National and RCD Highway between Quetta to Karachi, Taftan and Nasirabad remained suspended. The initiative to call for strike was also backed by other nationalist parties including Baloch Students
Organisation (BSO), but there were no statements issued.

Quetta, the capital of the province observed a partial strike where Baloch populated areas like Saryab, Berwary, New Saryab, Joint Road and other parts of the city remained closed.

In wake of the strike, all the education institutions in Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Naushki, Kharam, Panjgur, Washuk, Turbat, Mand, Industrial Town of Hub, Sibi, Kacchi, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Khuzdar and other townships also remained
closed.

Declaring it a black day, the BNF said in a statement, “This was a black day for the Baloch nation because Pakistani forces invaded Balochistan and forced accession to Pakistan.”
