Seoul: (Tuesday, March 27, 2012) The formal meeting between Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the US President Barak Obama has concluded on the agreement that both the countries will continue to cooperate against terrorism
and promote the regional peace.
Obama, according to the sources, said that the United States will continue to cooperate with Pakistan in all the sectors. He also said that the US respects the country’s sovereignty.
During the meeting, the US president also told PM Gilani that they were expecting of Pakistani Parliament to come up with a review on ties with Washington that is balanced and considerate of US security needs in the region.
President Obama also added that neither his country nor Pakistan wanted to see terrorists getting control of Pakistani nukes.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said that he wanted to see a stable Afghanistan as it was also in Pakistan’s interest. He also expressed the wish to develop working relations with the United States.
Gilani said that he appreciated the US President’s stance on Pakistan and his respect for the country’s sovereignty. However, he also added that future relations with the US will be based upon the recommendations forwarded by the
Parliament.
Since the May 2 operation in Abbotabad last year, which claimed of culminating in hunting down the Alqaeda chief Osama bin Laden by American commandos, this was the highest level meeting between the uneasy allies. Pakistan had
declared this raid as a clear violation of its sovereign boundaries.
