Rahul Sharma says ‘I learnt a lot in Australia’
Tuesday, March 27th, 2012 1:12:57 by Rana Nasir GhafoorIndia’s young leg-spinner Rahul Sharma has said that his recent tour to Australia was a learning experience. Although the Punjabi spinner did not get many opportunities to show his talent, he called it a wonderful journey.
"I learnt a lot in Australia. Seniors like Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni bhai (MS Dhoni), Viru (Virender Sehwag) bhai all helped in bowling. I got to learn a lot. It was a very important tour for me. I had worked very hard before going there. I did not get to
play much there because of injury," he said.
Under Yuvraj Singh’s command, Sharma was pretty impressive in the fifth edition of Indian Premier League. Representing Pune Warriors in the T20 championship, the young lad was one of the leading wicket takers in the tournament.
He also prayed for Yuvraj Singh’s quick recovery, adding: "I am in the Indian team because of him. Hope he comes back into the Indian team. Whenever he is back, will be good for us."
At the moment, Sharma is in action in the Syed Mushtaq Ali All India T20 tournament. In the semi-final encounter of the tournament, Sharma’s two wickets helped Punjab imposing an emphatic win over Mumbai.
On his team’s win, he shared, "We bowled well (against Mumbai), bowling has been our strength in this tournament. All four are international bowlers. Bhajji being a World Cup Champion player, has played a lot of T20."
"It feels good to be in the final. (Manpreet) Gony is doing well, VRV (Singh) is returning to the team (from a long injury lay-off) and Bhajji is always doing well. We have a very good (bowling) combination."
Harbhajan Singh, who represents Mumbai Indians in the IPL, is currently captaining Punjab side in the domestic tournament. On Bhajji’s captaincy skills, Sharma described, "Bhajji is an aggressive captain, and I enjoy playing under an aggressive captain."
The 25-year-old has played in three One Day Internationals so far, grabbing five wickets. His first class stats are even more impressive, as he holds 25 scalps under his belt in just 12 games.
