Mirror Mirror : Received mixed reviews

Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror is an upcoming fantasy film which is based on Snow White by Brothers Grimm. The movie is scheduled to release on 30th March 2012 and stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Nathan Lane and Sean Bean.

The $60 million budgeted flick follows an evil queen (played by Roberts) who schemes for control of an orphan (played by Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (starred by Armie Hammer). After Snow White’s beauty conquers prince’s heart,
the wicked enchantress exiles her to the forest where a man-eating beast awaits her. She is rescued by the seven dwarves who helped her by giving shelter.

Filming for the movie began on 20th June last year in Montreal, Quebec under the tentative name, Untitled Snow White Project. Production ended in mid-September and the first trailer and teaser poster was released on 30th November, 2011.

According to the box office mojo, Mirror Mirror has already bagged almost five million.

It received a 50 per cent rating at the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, based on 114 critical reviews. The site’s general consensus states,” Like most of Tarsem Singh’s films, Mirror Mirror is undeniably beautiful — but its treatment of the age-old
Snow White fable lacks enough depth or originality to set it apart from the countless other adaptations of the tale.”

J.R Jones of the Chicago Reader praised, “Singh is much more skilled as a visual artist than a storyteller, and his artistic fortunes seem to rise and fall with the inspiration of his screenwriters. In this case he’s lucked out.”

However, Linda Barnard of the Toronto Star gave it a rotten rating of 2.5 out of four and declared, “This rambling version of Snow White’s tale is a pretty, spun-sugar confection, airy as a plate of Easter egg-coloured macarons and similarly devoid of substance.”

Overall, Mirror Mirror will be an interesting movie to watch with your family.
