Apple iOS and Google Android in competition that brings their relationship on the edge – Part 1
Friday, March 30th, 2012 3:21:48 by Usman KhalidLast year Apple, Inc. saw its share of highs and lows in terms of market share, sales and profits. The company was left orphaned after the passing away of their cofounder and visionary Steve Jobs in October.
Jobs’ health condition this year and his ultimate departure were bad omens for Apple. First the technology giants faced fluctuation in shares when Jobs announced his retirement and then another dip in the graph when he passed away, just two days after the iPhone 4S release.
Moreover, the 4S released proved to be sweepstakes for Apple, since the new handset faced a massive battery problem. This technical faux pas will certainly reflect on the sales results in the October-December quarter.
Latest statistics stated that iOS devices faced a slump in the July-September quarter.
There has been observed a fierce competition between Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS of late. The recent stats show that the Android devices are dominating the market with a whopping 52.5 percent share while iOS products are humbled at 3rd position with a mere 15% share. Nokia Symbian is sandwiched between the two at 2nd position with 16.9 percent slice of the pie.
However, Apple has conquered the operating profits with gargantuan 65 percent against Google, Research In Motion, Nokia and Motorola.
In addition to the mobile-device competition, Google also decided to give Apple a hard time in cloud services.
