Google earns five times more with the iPhone
Saturday, March 31st, 2012 11:57:49 by Farasat AliGoogle has generated approximately 550 million US dollars during the last four years according to the figures provided by Oracle for patent violation.
These figures suggest that Apple devices such as the iPhone, using maps and the Google search engine, gave this almost five times more revenue, some 2,500 million dollars.
About 200 million Android devices have been activated until late 2011, including about 90 million in the last two years, which means that Google gets a little more than $ 10 a year for Android phone.
According to Microsoft, Google annual earnings of $ 38,000 million are from advertising on computers, which are installed worldwide. This suggests an average income of about $ 30 Google for PC per year, although not all access
the Internet or use Google, so the figure would be considerably higher.
Google has never released revenue figures for the use of Android phones, where the search engine provides free software to handset makers in exchange for advertising revenue and sales of applications made ??through software.
The analysis of the figures which has arisen from the compensation offered by Google to Oracle after the order made by the Judge, William Alsup, for the parties to reach a settlement.
Android has accuses Oracle of infringing patents and copyrights which owns the Java programming language. Oracle acquired when it bought the intellectual property Sun Microsystems, owner of Java in 2010, when the suit was filed.
The outcome of the trial is scheduled for April 16.
In a previous offer of settlement, Google proposed to pay Oracle a percentage of revenues from Android, which suggested a payment of 2,800 million dollars in damages, with 0.5% of steady income in a patent Android expires in December,
and 0.015% for one that expires in 2018.
Google said the figures are consistent with damage estimated by an expert appointed by the court. The offer does not mean that Google admits to have infringed the patents claimed by Oracle.
The figure of 2,800 million suggests that the total income of Android since the launch of the first phones in 2008 through the end of 2011 was $ 543 million.
The figures also indicate that Android may claim more than one billion from advertising this year. For manufacturers to get the authorization to use Android, they must include services like Google Search and Maps in their mobiles.
However, some companies, including Amazon, have refused to do so.
Larry Page, CEO of the company, said in October that it was "seeing a huge positive impact of mobile revenues, an increase of 250% in the last 12 months, with about 2,500 million dollars."
