One reason for Sprint’s slow progress: Apple – Part 2
Saturday, March 31st, 2012 10:42:04 by Usman KhalidOver the years there have been a number of competitors who thought they could beat Apple to the punch but just because they thought that, the very opposite happened.
Hewlett-Packard, one of the Silicon Valley giants plunged into the smartphone business in 2010 when they bought the already beleaguering handheld operating system developers, Palm. However, after a couple of flop smartphone releases with countless software glitches and hardware hiccups, HP announced to pull the plug on their smartphone business in the sophomore year.
Research In Motion (RIM), once the best smartphone manufacturer in the shape of Blackberry, are now standing on Achilles Heel due to a series of failed devices from smartphones to tablets. In addition, their stunt of keeping to their operating system, Blackberry OS has proved to be the catalyst in the process. The OS has bugs of its own, in addition to the lack of 4G LTE compatibility.
It has been squeezed between Apple and companies such as Samsung building smartphones based on Google’s Android software. And RIM’s PlayBook tablet, hyped as an alternative to Apple’s iPad, has flopped.
While Adobe has fared better — the multimedia software developer remains profitable despite a flat stock price over the past year — its Flash multimedia platform has been hurt badly by Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs’ blunt criticism of the technology.
Looking at these past examples, the chances of Sprint to come out of the oblivion are a few to being none. The only remedy to the company to survive the ultra-competitive environment is to adopt the new technology, 4G LTE as its inclusion in the next iPhone is eminent.
