England Test captain has shown full confidence on his team and said that side is desperate to grab much-needed victory. His remarks came ahead of second Test against Sri Lanka.
The islanders are currently 1-0 up in the series following their 75-run win in the opening Test. The Englishmen have been struggling in Asian conditions, as it was their fourth consecutive defeat.
The Poms suffered an embarrassing 3-0 whitewash loss at the hands of Pakistan in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Despite the fact that nothing is going in his favour, Strauss is not ready to lose his determination.
"We desperately want to win this Test match and make amends for what happened in Galle. I am very sure we have the ability to do it, and that is what we will challenge ourselves to do in the next five days. We have not been as consistent as we would like
to be, and now we have this final chance and salvage something out of the winter and go into the summer with some momentum,” said Strauss.
He added, "I retain absolute faith in our players. You are not going to win every game you play. But if you retain faith, you will turn it around, especially when you have players of quality in your side, which I know we have."
The left-handed opener is under immense pressure at the moment. White his side has not been performing well, Strauss’ personal batting performance is not impressive.
There have been talks circulating about Strauss thinking of quitting captaincy, but the man himself cleared the air. He stated that stepping down from captaincy is not one of the things he is thinking about.
"I have not considered quitting the captaincy, and going into this game, it is not something that is on my mind. Obviously I want to score some runs, there is no doubt about that. But I am confident we have the material to do well in this Test. Everyone
is motivated to show that we can play better than what we have done so far. I am not distracted at all about my form," he described on Monday.
