Sialkot Stallions win seventh domestic T20 crown
Monday, April 2nd, 2012 12:37:44 by Taha HabibShoaib Malik’s Sialkot Stallions cruised past Karachi Dolphins in the final of the Faysal Bank T20 on Sunday, April 1, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Having won the toss and electing to bat first, Dolphins made 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Khalid Latif stayed not-out with 81 off 59 balls that included seven fours and three sixes. Shahzaib Hasan made 30 of 12 balls while Asad Shafiq scored 38 off
35 balls with the last five wickets falling for 14 runs courtesy of Raza Hasan’s four wickets.
All four wickets fell in the last over of the left-armer restricting Karachi to 167 after Mohammad Sami’s side were once cruising at 153/2. Raza picked up four scalps while Umaid Asif and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan picked up a wicket each.
In reply, Sialkot got off to a poor start with wicket keeper, Shakeel Ansar getting run-out for 6 off 3 balls. Imran Nazir and Haris Sohail added 45 for the second wicket before the former fell for 41 off 20 balls. His innings included six fours and two
sixes.
Shoaib Mailk and Sohail formed an excellent 119-run stand between them and guided Stallions to their record seventh domestic crown. Mailk remained unbeaten on 62 off 42 and Sohail 55 off 48. Rumman Raees and Faraz Ahmed picked up one wicket each.
Shoaib Malik and Haris Sohail were declared joint Man of the Match while Khalid Latif bagged the awards for the Best Batsman, Highest Scorer, Most number of Sixes and Most number of Fours. Shakeel Ansar was given two awards for the Best Wicketkeeper and
Highest number of Catches. Best Bowler of the Tournament went to Raza Hasan.
This was the sixth occasion when Karachi Dolphins entered the final and lost.
