Vidya Balan discusses her Bollywood journey
Monday, April 2nd, 2012 4:21:47 by Imran Shaukat KhanVidya Balan is on a cloud nine these days thanks to the stupendous success of Milan Luthria’s film ‘The Dirty Picture’, which was released last year on December 2. However, her journey in the Bollywood industry was not a cake walk.
The 34-year-old actress, after appearing in several ad films and music videos, made her B-town debut in 2005 with Pradeep Sarkar’s film ‘Parineeta’ and in a recent interview, she revealed that she had to give over 60 screen tests for the film.
Balan told the media that there was a time when the filmmakers threw her out of their films and Pradeep was the only one who showed the generosity.
“I was doing ad films and I had signed quite a few South films but then I went through a phase of being called jinxed because my first South film was stopped midway and then other directors threw me out of their films. I started doing music videos…but Dada (director Pradeep Sarkar) had told me he would make a film with me,” Vidya told reporters here, on Friday night at the Vidhu Vinod Chopra festival.
“He (Pradeep Sarkar) went to Chopra (Producer) with the script and Chopra wanted a bigger star but he also said if I am able to show that I can do the role then they will take me. I gave over 60 tests…right from Indian look, western look, curly hair, straight hair, song, emotional scene…etc.
“I kept doing it but later I was fed up as I was not aware if they were really going to take me or not,” Vidya said.
Vidya Balan was recently seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s film ‘Kahaani’. Though it was yet another female oriented movie, it did well at the Indian box office, thus confirming Balan’s place in the industry.
Balan will now be seen in Rajesh Mapuskar’s upcoming film ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’, which is scheduled to hit the cinemas on April 27, 2012.
