The 100m freestyle world champion, James Magnussen is checking out the swimming pool that will be used at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 20-year-old Magnussen, who has alarmed his competitors with his blistering 47.10 seconds at the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships, said, “I’ll just strip down to the swimmers and walk up and down the side of the pool and try and get a feel
for it, something like that.”
While commenting on the building pressure for the forthcoming London Games, his coach, Brant Best said, “He seems to love the pressure. The more pressure he’s under, the better he performs, so bring it on.”
“He’s thrown the cat among the pigeons with a different kind of race this year. He’s keeping them guessing and he’s loving being in that position,” Best added.
“It was nothing that I wanted to announce publicly because I didn’t want anyone to think I had any weaknesses, but it did effect me to an extent,” said Magnussen.
While answering a question regarding his illness at the last month’s trials, Magnussen said, “The main problem was a respiratory infection and I just was up all night coughing most nights.”
“He by no means swam the perfect race at trials and we’ve got some improvements to work on that can take some significant time off that again,” Best said.
“His turn wasn’t as fast as I’d like it to be and, as far as the race goes, he’s out half a second … than the relay time last year. As far as the front end or the back end of the race goes, we can look at that balance as well,” coach added.
In addition, the 2012 London Games are just a few month away while Magnussen is pretty confident that he will lower the 46.91 seconds mark of Cesar Cielo.
With his alluring efforts at the last month’s trials, Magnussen has left no doubt about his stupendous win at the upcoming Games but he claims that he has more to present to make his fans happier.
