Mirror Mirror: Opened to number three at the Box Office

Mirror Mirror is a fantasy film which is based on Snow White and directed by Tarsem Singh. The movie stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Nathan Lane, Sean Bean and grossed $30 million on its three-day opening weekend.  

The $85 million budgeted movie landed at number three in its opening weekend at the Box Office. The Hunger Games retained its top spot at the US box office after earnign another $61 million while Wrath of the Titans opened to number two with $33.5 million. 

The flick follows an evil queen (played by Julia Roberts) who schemes for control of an orphan (played by Lily Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (starred by Armie Hammer). After Snow White’s beauty conquers prince’s heart, the wicked
enchantress exiles Snow to the forest where a man-eating beast awaits her. She is rescued by the seven dwarves who helped her by giving shelter. 

According to the box office mojo, Mirror Mirror bagged almost five million before its release. 

It received a 49 per cent rating at the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, based on 130 critical reviews. The site’s general consensus states,” Like most of Tarsem Singh’s films, Mirror Mirror is undeniably beautiful — but its treatment of the age-old
Snow White fable lacks enough depth or originality to set it apart from the countless other adaptations of the tale.”

Nick Pinkerton of the Village Voice praised the movie by stating, “Here, the familiar tale is retold with concessions to feminist self-determination and camp humour, bending the Grimm Brothers’ tale without infringing on its basic beauty.”

Anne Thompson of the Thompson on Hollywood had a different opinion, “Lily Collins’ Snow White is a doltish drip,.While the often incoherent filmmaker has always favoured style over content in the past, he was never this insipid.” 

Overall, Mirror Mirror is a good movie to watch with your friends and family.
