Ryan Harris and Michael Beer demolish WICB President’s XI
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012 12:43:00 by Taha HabibWest Indies Cricket Board President XI were all out for 201 on the first day against the touring Australians. The home side won the toss and chose to bat first with Keiron Powell, Dwayne Smith and Jason Holder scoring notable runs for the Islanders.
Powell made 42 before being cleaned up by Harris. Smith amassed 62 of 73 balls while Holder scored 49 of 76 before Harris and Beer picked up the two scalps respectively. No other player apart from these three entered into the double figures. Harris picked
up 4/23 of his 13 overs while Beer bagged 4/41 off his 8.2 overs. Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon picked up a wicket each while Ben Hilfenhaus and James Pattinson failed to register their names in the wicket column.
Australians started their reply with Shane Watson and Ed Cowan before the latter fell for 12 off the bowling of Ryan Austin. Watson and Michael Clarke added 19 for the second wicket before the opener lost his wicket to Nelon Pascal for 42 of 54 balls.
Clarke and Ricky Ponting were at the crease before the close of play on Day 1 with 11 and 8 not-out respectively. Pascal picked up 1/37 off his five overs while Austin bagged 1/19 off his seven. Delorn Johnson and Kevin McClean went wicketless after the
Day 1.
Australians will start the second day at 81/2 and 120 runs behind of the WICB President’s XI total of 201.
