‘Avatar 2’ set to release 2015
Thursday, April 5th, 2012 2:35:53 by Waqas TariqThe sequel to the epic science fiction movie has already commenced filming and will be released in three years time.
John Landau, the Producer of the film, revealed that there is no set release date but admitted that a deadline of 2014 may be difficult. He insisted that the makers are in no hurry to release the film and want to take their time in completing the project considering the expectations from the second outing.
“We’re not naming dates, but I think 2014 will be a tough date for us to make. It’s about getting it right. Movies make release dates; release dates don’t make movies,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The producer added that the team has already started working on the sequel and revealed that the animation supervisors and VFX team are currently working on the underwater sequences. He added that the use of motion capture filming technique means the project will take some time to be completed.
“We’ve started already. WETA are already working and we have our core team, [animation supervisor] Richie Baneham and [digital effects supervisor] Nolan Murtha, working with us. And we’re working on underwater performance-capture,” he continued.
Landau refused to comment further on the story of the film and insisted that most of the technology used in the first movie would be the same for the sequel. He also played down rumours that ‘Avatar 2’ would be filmed underwater, claiming that only some parts are being filmed underwater.
“It’s going to be like the Floating Mountains in the first movie. It’s not going to be all underwater; it’s going to be a place we go to, leave and come back to,” he concluded.
‘Avatar’ was released in December 2009 and grossed a staggering $2.7 billion worldwide.
