President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to visit India on coming Sunday on a private tour, where he will visit Ajmer Sharif. The President will be accompanied by the Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
Pakistan and India are currently going through a strange kind of a relationship as the leaders from both the countries have been giving positive statements since last couple of years but there seem to be no breakthroughs at all.
So much so that India halted its sporting relations with Pakistan after the ‘terror attacks’ in Mumbai in November 2008. Pakistan has shown interest in resuming the bilateral sporting ties as it can decrease the tension between the neighboring countries
but to no avail, as India has not responded at all.
In their recent meeting at Seoul, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gillani invited his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh to visit Pakistan but the later refused.
In such circumstances, most of the political analysts in the country have slammed this decision of the President of Pakistan to visit India.
Even the leader of opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan criticized the expected tour of Zardari in a press conference and expressed that this decision defies logic.
Historically, Pakistan and India have shared bitter relations and have fought three full-fledge wars with each other. The two countries spend a huge amount of money on defense, while some believe that this money could have been used to eradicate poverty
in the region.
If the two countries can resolve their disputes like Kashmir, Siachen and Sirkreek, South Asia can move forward at a rapid pace. It is extremely unfortunate that a huge number of people in India and Pakistan do not have enough food to eat and countless human
beings are dying of hunger, but the governments have shown such stern attitude in the last six decades.
At the present moment of time, the need of the hour for both the countries is to conduct confidence building measures. The best way to do so is to resume the sporting relations and bring the people of both countries closer to each other. War is not a solution
to any problem and peace must prevail in the region, otherwise the future looks not as bright.
