Rahul Dravid "keen and focused" to perform well in IPL
Thursday, April 5th, 2012 7:47:50 by Rana Nasir GhafoorRajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid is ‘keen and focussed’ to do his job in great fashion for his Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit.
The former Indian batsman will be in action for the first time after his retirement from international cricket. After Shane Warne’s retirement from the league, the captaincy duties have been given to the classy right-hander.
Although the shortest version of the game does not suit his batting style, Dravid is determined to do well in the championship. He shared he has been playing IPL for last four years and that there is no different feeling in playing T20 cricket.
"I have been playing in this format for past four years so do not think there would be any different feeling or any new challenge. I am a lot more keen and focused," Dravid told reporters.
"I have taken over as captain, coach and mentor from Shane Warne so there are little more expectations but I feel these are more of words and basically it all is more about coordination because there is support staff and one has to use these experts for
better results," he added.
Dravid feels that the league is a fine chance for the young domestic player to polish their talent. Referring to Rajasthan franchise, he described that there are a few young lads in the team, who can be handy in the tournament.
"Every team has to rely on domestic players as it is a team game, the four overseas players are not enough. I am happy that Rajasthan Royals have some very exciting players in Ajinkya Rahane, Ashok Menaria and few more," the legendary batsman stated.
On Menaria, he shared, "Menaria is an exciting talent and the way he has been batting for the last seven days our camp here has been sensational. He is at a very important stage of his career. He would be important for us and I hope good performance in this
IPL would take him forward. I would be happy if I am able to use my experience and help the youngsters like Menaria and Rahane climb up the ladder."
