How to clean up your mobile device – Increasing the performance of smartphones and tablets – Part 2
Friday, April 6th, 2012 6:25:52 by Usman KhalidUninstall the apps that were used only once and are not needed any more. Get rid of the apps that were only for show or to make screen more flamboyant, especially in case of Android. On the other hand, the apps that are in continuous usage, do not leave them lurking around. I will get to the part where to tweak their settings to the benefit of energy consumption.
You are going to notice the speed of your device has increased and swiping has become smoother. That however, is not because of the freed up space but because most of these uninstalled applications have stopped interacting with the operating system.
The next part in the cleaning up is the settings of the existing apps. Most of them are continuously on the internet and most have live notifications feature on. Turn off such features in those applications that do not need immediate attention, for example the email apps, you can manually check your emails because that is actually a part of your life style. This will not only free you up from being the slave of your smartphone or tablet but also will elongate the battery life.
Moreover, live updates take much of data packets and as the 3G and 4G and GPRS users have volume-based packages, the data will be lost for nothing in particular in most cases.
Another option that users can undertake is to bring the smartphone to the factory restore settings. I know that it sounds like coming from a novice, but bear with me. The restoration to a kind of Tabula Rasa state brings the same old performance capabilities to the device. However, do not undergo this procedure unless you have synced your device to your computer and have created a backup.
After the restoration, you can install the important apps and can tweak the settings to power-efficient mode.
