Iran pull out of U-14 Festival
Monday, April 9th, 2012 4:04:18 by Shahrukh SohailThe Asian U-14 Football Festival has been dealt with another blow after Iran refused to send their team, allegedly because of security concerns.
With Islamabad hosting this year’s edition of the U-14 Festival, many sides have expressed concerns about the security being provided in the country.
According to a PFF official they told the Iranians that they had to stop at Abu Dhabi whenever they came to them for the Festival, but they never showed any complaints regardless of the hassle.
“But we told him that our team also goes to Iran for the same festival via Abu Dhabi through connected flight and stays for nine hours at the Abu Dhabi Airport. We are hopeful that the AFC will take action against all the four teams, including Iran, for
pulling out of the festival,” he said.
He also added if the continental body did not agree to take strict measures against the Asian side, then they would have to consider Pakistan’s involvement in the future AFC events.
“If the AFC did not take any action then we would think whether we should send our team to Iran for the same festivals in future or not. Because the security environment is the same in both Iran and Pakistan,” the unnamed source was quoted as saying.
