Rahul Dravid keeps things simple as captain, says Ajinkya Rahane
Tuesday, April 10th, 2012 8:16:02 by Rana Nasir GhafoorRajasthan Royals batsman Ajinkya Rahane has revealed that Rahul Dravid makes simple yet effective moves. He was comparing the captaincy style of Rajasthan’s former skipper Shane Warne and the current skipper, Rahul Dravid.
Despite rating both of them as good leaders, Rahane disclosed a few differences between their tactics. He described that Warne had a tradition of stunning everyone by making unexpected moves, whereas the Indian legend keeps things simple.
"Shane Warne used to take some instinctive decisions and surprise us by doing something which we had never expected. Rahul Dravid is keeping everything as simple as he can. Both are good captains and excellent players," said Rahane.
Rajasthan Royals are doing a great job in the ongoing fifth edition of the Indian Premier League. In their previous encounter, the Royals routed Kolkata Knight Riders by 22 runs.
Rahane and his teammates are now scheduled to meet Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. Since the classy right-hander represents Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, he takes next game just like playing at home.
"Playing at the Wankhede Stadium is always a special moment for me. I started my cricket career here and have played a lot of matches here. We know Mumbai Indians are a very strong team. They had scored a good victory in the last game.
It’s a very important game for us," he told reporters.
On his team’s two back to back wins earlier in the tournament, the 23-year-old described, "We have had a good team effort in both our earlier games. All had contributed in the first game. In the second match [Brad] Hodge and Ashok (Menaria)
batted well. In between Shrivats [Goswami] and Hodge had a good partnership and at the end Owais Shah contributed important runs to help us reach the 160-mark."
"And in bowling, all of them did well. We have got the early momentum and would try and keep out consistency intact and keep it as simple as possible."
Although Rahane was unable to spark in the previous game, his performance against Kings XI Punjab was quite impressive.
With the help of 16 boundaries and a huge six, Rahane played a splendid 98-run-knock to steer his team to a comprehensive triumph.
