Takeshi Matsuda and Kosuke Kitajima earned gold medals in the events of Men’s 200m butterfly and 200m breaststroke respectively on fifth day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo.
The championship is of utmost importance, as it provides an opportunity to Japanese stars to compete with each other before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Matsuda outshined his competitors in the 200m butterfly discipline by ending his swim in a time of 1 minute and 54.01 seconds.
His title claiming performance remained one and a half body length ahead of his following swimmer, Kazuya Kaneda, who seized second position of the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 55.39 seconds.
Kaneda was trailed by Ryusuke Sakata, who ended his swim in third best place by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 55.88 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Hidemasa Sano, who remained marginally slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 55.97 seconds. Sano remained considerably ahead of Kenta Hirai, who tapped the wall
with the timing of 1 minute and 56.67 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, Kitajima went on a rampage in the 200m breaststroke, where he upset his challengers by winning gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.00 seconds. He was followed by Ryo Tateishi, who seized silver medal of the discipline
by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 08.17 seconds.
Tateishi was followed by Akihiro Yamaguchi, who stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.70 seconds.
Yamaguchi enjoyed an advantage of almost one second over Kazuki Ohtsuka, who concluded his swim with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.85 seconds for fourth position.
Yukihiro Takahashi occupied fifth position of the discipline as he completed his race in a time of 2 minutes and 11.54 seconds for fifth position.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the winners collected accolades at prize ceremony of the championship.
