Bollywood buzz Vidya Balan is on a cloud nine these days and it all happened after the stupendous success of the film ‘The Dirty Picture’, which was released last year on December 2. Balan, who also bagged a National Award for her performance in ‘The Dirty Picture’, also proved herself this year in Sujoy Ghosh’s film ‘Kahaani’, which was released on March 23.

‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’ were both female-oriented films as a result to which many thought they would not become successful since Bollywood is male-oriented industry. However, Balan, now 34, emerged triumphant against all odds.

The actress in a short time has indeed become a bankable star in the industry and the TIME magazine has acknowledged her performance-driven acting skills by nominating her in TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential people of 2012.

Vidya Balan has now joined the list, which includes world leaders, artists, innovators, icons and heroes like Vladimir Putin, Aung San Suu Kyi, Lady Gaga, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and others.

After appearing in several commercials, Balan made her Bollywood debut in 2005 with ‘Parineeta’, in which she played a Bengali beauty. Surely she has come a long way and perhaps this is a reason why the TIME Magazine has introduced her in beautiful short piece.

TIME Magazine said, “Do Bollywood heroines have sex? Thanks to Balan, the answer is finally yes, yes, yes! Balan started her career with romantic fluff, playing coy, chaste leading ladies, but has found critical acclaim (and box-office success) playing real women with real desires, from a 1970s soft-porn star to the sister of a murder victim who fights for justice. She’s more popular than ever, a Bollywood icon for the knowing woman of the new India.”

Along with Vidya Balan, four other Indians are also on the poll list this year. Other Indians are star cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, Gujarat’s chief Minister Narendra Modi, Social activists Anna Hazare and Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Well, all said and done, let’s see if Vidya grabs the top position in the list. Online voting is still going on.
